Message	(longer = better) and you should get some life out of it to get the things you need After my HD only lasted 15-20 min, I tried reformatting (already had a backup) and wouldn't last through the format. Threw it in the freezer for about an hour, + kept ice packs on top/bottom of my laptop and it made it through the "full" format.
